Fanzara

Originally founded by the inhabitants of Castellet (a castle perched high up on one of the district's many mountains) a few years after 1238, after the castle was given to the Archbishop of Narbonne, alongside other lands from the Kingdom of Valencia. It appears that prior to this date it was mainly occupied by Moors, who lived in Fanzara for many years, leaving an indelible mark on its history.

Economy

The main activity is agriculture, which is combined with a relatively weak tile industry. The population works either in the fields, in factories, in construction or in certain professions.

What to see

To explore the village, the Santo Sepulcro hermitage is a must see. Be sure to visit the church and walk through the old town to the public washing space and the fountain. You can enjoy strolling through the impressive winding streets.

Landscape

The relief is predominantly mountainous, the village lies in a valley at the foot of which flows the river Mijares. The climate is Mediterranean and pretty mild, considering its proximity to the sea. The summers are mild, whereas winters are colder than in the capital, Castellón. The village is located approximately 230 metres above sea level, nestled between the river, fertile crop lands and rocky mountains, with steep, narrow streets.
