The Tower

Càlig

The municipal Tower of Calig is a medieval defensive structure. It’s from the 16th century. Inside the town, it’s near the parish church. The floor plan is quadrangular with street rocks in the corners and in the door and window openings. The structure is comprised of three levels or floors which are accessed via a staircase. The first floor ceiling is a semi-circular arch.

It’s the oldest building in the village. Despite the fact that the date on the stone coat of arms says 1625, the date of construction is rather unknown. Over time, the stone structure has gone through several significant modifications and has been used as the Town Hall, a jail and a warehouse.
