Virgen de la Misericordia

During the first fortnight of September, always around the 8th, we can enjoy the Fiestas Patronales honouring the Virgen de la Misericordia. These are deeply traditional celebrations which are widely accepted. Over the space of 10 days, the city changes its appearance and the city centre and old town turns into an improvised bullring. Large numbers of neighbours and visitors come to enjoy the bull-related shows, such as the traditional “bou al carrer” and the “bou embolat”.
The fiestas de la Misericordia are known for the celebrations organised by the local peñas, which include open-air dances, shows and musical bands and add life to the city’s streets.
This is a multi-coloured end to the festivities. On the last Sunday of the celebrations, at six thirty in the evening, we see the start of the Batalla de Flores. Hundreds of people fill the streets to meet the procession and enjoy a spectacular show filled with elegance and fun. This celebration consists of a procession of floats, which are handmade by the members of the falla commissions, from which a fun confetti battle kicks off, aiming for children, youngsters and adults to come together and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon. Ending with an amazing firework display to conclude this highly colourful celebration.
