El Salvador

The Most Holy Saviour

The feast of devotion

The feast of El Salvador or the Saviour is celebrated on the 6th of August. As it is the day of the patron saint of Onda, citizens pay homage to him and thus continue a tradition that began long ago. But the most significant event is on the eve of this day, also known as “nit del Salvador”.

During the entire night of the 5th of August, the inhabitants of Onda make a pilgrimage covering the five kilometres that separate the town from the shrine of the Most Holy Saviour, to attend high Mass, sing hymns in his praise and to partake of the different activities that are organised in honour of their patron saint.

Friends meet up in traditional huts scattered all around, where they have dinner, fire rockets in honour of the Saviour and enjoy a night filled with music, warmth and, to put it in one word: feasts.

Nowadays, the traditional festival is complemented by Onda Natura, where everybody can enjoy games, adventures, dances, etc.
