This village has its origins in a Muslim hamlet repopulated by Christians after the Reconquest. A subsequent repopulation by Muslims took place, before a further repopulation by Christians under the Order of Montesa. The municipality gained its independence from Onda in 1842.

Economy

It is primarily a dormitory town. However, there is also some agriculture, chiefly citrus fruit farming.

What to see

Make sure you visit the monument dedicated to the Dolçainer de Tales (a long line of musicians who played a double-reed instrument called dolçaina), the church, built in the 18th century, the calvary and the town gates.

Landscape

With an elevation of 235 metres, particularly marked is the Monti area, where the Sierra de Espadán mountain range begins.
