Artana Castle Ruins

Declared a Site of Cultural Interest - Artana

The bravest of visitors may emulate the Christian Conquistadors of the past in their fight against the fierce Muslim defenders by climbing the slopes that precede the old medieval fortress of Artana, which is actually of ancient Roman origins or even earlier. The castle can be gradually accessed from the Calvary along the sides of the mountain.  Remains of towers, cisterns, moats and walls await along with impressive views of the valley, the town and the Sierra de Espadán mountains which really offer an understanding of the strategic location of this old defensive enclave.
