La Atalaya

Declared as Site of Cultural Interest - Onda

La Atalaya is an Islamic-era watchtower, although some have attributed it to the Romans. It is located on the peak of a sharply sloping hill linked to La Pedriza, along the course of the River Mijares and is within sight of the castle. The tower is cylindrical and approximately 5 metres high, built of stone blocks joined together with mortar. It functioned as a guard tower and overlooked the bridle path, presumably a Roman road that passed beneath it through the mountains of La Pedriza.
