The Town Charter

Before the start of autumn, on the 29th of September, the people from Vinaròs commemorate the granting of the Town Charter to the town of Vinaròs, that is, its independence cession. In 1241, the mayor of Peñíscola, D. Gil de Atrocillo, on behalf of King Jaume I, gave the Town Charter to Mr. Grinyó Ballester and to other fifty settlers who lived in Vinaròs, so they could finally establish in the town, and Vinaròs finally achieved its independence. Around the 29th of September, many cultural activities take place, such as concerts, exhibitions, theatre and tours, among others.
