Coast of the Province of Castellón

The province of Castellón includes the most northern territory of the Valencian Community, a region known under the tourism brand of Castellón, over the course of which stretches 120 kilometres of coast, including superb beaches and beautiful coves.

Castellón bombards the visitor with a vast array of sensations: the pure aroma of the orange blossom which gives the area its name; the pleasing freshness of the sea breeze; the soft touch of the endless, warm, fine and sandy beaches; or the beauty of the wild coves which bathe in the tranquil waters of the Mediterranean sea.

In Castellón, you can choose from all kinds of beaches, all of which guarantee you the finest waters and a multitude of services and facilities, for a great day out in the sunshine.

Many of the beaches in the province of Castellón have been awarded the Blue Flag by the European Foundation for Environmental Education, due to the outstanding quality of their water and the services they offer. Furthermore, many others boast the “Q” Certificate of Quality, awarded by the ICTE (The Spanish Institute for Quality Tourism), the ISO 9001 quality management standard, or the environmental quality mark, the ISO 14001.

From spacious stretches of coast to hidden little coves, the province of Castellón offers, in the overwhelming majority of cases, sandy beaches that make it both more fun and safer to enjoy swimming in the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. What is more, amongst the wide range of beaches available on the Castellón, there are places where you can sit back and relax in the sand with the natural aroma of oranges and pine trees. Castellón features two natural parks with virgin coastal areas: the Sierra de Irta Natural Park, made up, amongst others, of the coastal municipalities of Peñiscola and Alcalá de Xivert – Alcossebre, and the Prat de Cabanes – Torreblanca Natural Park, comprised purely of spaces from the municipalities of the same name. These parks enable us to enjoy sand and sea in their purest forms and to discover genuine natural treasures, the likes of which you will also find in the Protected Natural Space at the mouth of the river Mijares, in the municipal districts of Almassora and Burriana.

As well as these natural spots, Castellón is home to the Islas Columbretes Natural Park and Marine Reserve, a group of volcanic islets just off the coast of Castellón which offer unique, spectacular landscapes that are a must for fans of scuba diving, since, owing to the volcanic nature of the islands, they offer excellent underwater visibility.

The beaches of Castellón are lively spots offering a range of services, including showers, reduced mobility access, lifeguards and rescue teams, rental of water sports equipment, and beach games. There are pleasant seafront promenades, home to the famous chiringuitos (beach bars), public libraries, nurseries and instructors for the little ones and during the summer months, an entertainment team, allowing you to choose the leisure activities that suit you best.

Vinaròs, Benicarló, Peñíscola, Alcalà de Xivert – Alcossebre, Torreblanca, Cabanes, Oropesa del Mar, Benicàssim, Castellón de la Plana, Almassora, Burriana, Nules, Moncofa, Xilxes, La Llosa and Almenara: these are the sixteen municipalities that stretch out from north to south along the coast of “Castellón Spain". Between them, they offer an extraordinary range of beaches in which visitors can choose between a lively day out or a relaxing break; between hidden spots and urban beaches, between sunbathing and water sports, they are guaranteed to find what they are looking for, whether it be a well-earned break or a few days of fun, right by the Mediterranean Sea.
