Museum of Contemporary Art of Vilafamés

Vilafamés

The Museu d’Art Contemporani Vicente Aguilera Cerni de Vilafamés was opened in 1972, its founder being the prestigious art critic D. Vicente Aguilera Cerni.

The museum institution, of the first dedicated to contemporary arts in Spain, is home to more than 500 works of art whose artists are a reference point in the artistic avant-garde, both on a national and international level.

The formation of its collection, through donations or the artists themselves,  makes it a pioneer in this management model in which there is no purchase of works and the collection becomes dynamic.

The museum is in the Palau del Batlle, a splendid mansion from the 15th century, located in the Vilafamés old town, a picturesque town in-land in the province of Castellón, declared as a Site of Cultural Interest.

Due to the special characteristics of the content, the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Vilafamés is considered an unusual case.
