In its coastal area, important tourist centres can be found, such as Vinaròs, Benicarló, Peñíscola or Alcalà - Alcossebre. Municipalities with some of the best beaches in the province and all services and that bring together a great part of the accommodation offer.
Accordingly, inland municipalities have a history no less important, monumentality according to their importance over the centuries and an ancestral agricultural landscape with the olive tree and the almond tree as main crops.
The region can boast of having two Natural Parks, being very different: the Natural Park of the Serra d'Irta, located on the Mediterranean coast, and the Natural Park of Tinença de Benifassà, located more than a thousand metres high and with unique biospaces in the Valencian Region.
Its cuisine based mainly on seafood, such as Peñíscola's winkles or the famous Vinarós prawns; likewise, oil and Benicarló artichokes must also be highlighted due to its gastronomic quality.
Valencian is the usual language used.
