St. Christina Shrine

Artana

This is the most popular place among the locals. It’s a large space made up of an early 18th century shrine dedicated to St. Christina -the town’s patron saint-, a guesthouse adjacent to the shrine (now, a restaurant), a monumental old olive grove, a large green path and a fountain that has watered Artana's fields apparently since Ibero-Roman times and which the Muslims were able to take advantage of for the same purpose. The cork oak groves surrounding the area and the lush vegetation of the green path running through them provide the entire area with a unique natural harmony that reigns throughout the municipality. A good number of the locals and an increasing number of visitors participate in the romeria to St. Christina on the evening of 23rd July, the eve of the most important day of all the patron saint festivities.
